Classic Meatloaf Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef (80% lean)

  • 1 egg

  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably plain)

  • 1/2 cup milk

  • 1/2 cup chopped onion

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1/4 cup ketchup (plus extra for topping)

  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme (optional)

  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Prepare the Meatloaf Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, milk, chopped onion, minced garlic, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and any optional herbs you like (thyme and oregano).

  3. Mix: Use your hands or a spoon to mix the ingredients together until everything is well combined, but be careful not to overmix, as this can make the meatloaf tough.

  4. Form the Meatloaf: Transfer the mixture into a loaf pan and shape it into a loaf shape, or form the meat mixture into a loaf shape and place it on a baking sheet if you prefer.

  5. Bake: Place the meatloaf in the preheated oven and bake for about 60-75 minutes, or until the meatloaf reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).

  6. Add Ketchup: In the last 10 minutes of baking, spread a thin layer of ketchup over the top of the meatloaf for a glaze.

  7. Rest and Serve: Once done, remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for about 10 minutes before slicing. This will help the juices redistribute and keep the meatloaf moist.

  8. Serve: Slice and serve with mashed potatoes, steamed vegetables, or a side salad. Enjoy!

This classic meatloaf is simple, flavorful, and loved recipe. You can also customize it by adding ingredients like bell peppers, mushrooms, or cheese to the mixture.
